Tiles Required per 100 Sq Ft by Size

Counts before wastage; add 10% when ordering

Tile Size Area per Tile Tiles per 100 Sq Ft Typical Tiles per Box
300 × 300 mm (1 × 1 ft) 0.97 sq ft 104 9-10
300 × 600 mm (1 × 2 ft) 1.94 sq ft 52 8
600 × 600 mm (2 × 2 ft) 3.88 sq ft 26 4
800 × 800 mm 6.89 sq ft 15 3
600 × 1200 mm (2 × 4 ft) 7.75 sq ft 13 2

Tile counts are exact by area; boxes per carton vary by brand, confirm before ordering. Reference as of August 2026.

How This Calculator Works

The calculator converts your room into square feet, adds skirting along the perimeter if selected, applies your wastage allowance, and divides by the exact area of your chosen tile to get the count. Boxes are computed from the tiles-per-box figure, which you can edit to match your brand's carton.

Tiles Needed = (Floor Area + Skirting Area) × (1 + Wastage) ÷ Area per Tile
Cost = Tiles + Bedding or Adhesive + Grout + Laying Labor

For cement-sand bedding, quantities assume a standard 40-50 mm bed. For adhesive, coverage assumes a 20 kg bag laying roughly 45 sq ft at the recommended notch, which varies with trowel size and floor level. Grout is estimated from joint density and is naturally higher for small tiles than large-format ones.

Buy One Batch

Tile shade varies between production lots. Order your full quantity including wastage in a single batch and keep a few spare tiles for future repairs.

Layout Before Laying

A dry layout from the room center avoids thin cut strips at visible edges. Diagonal and pattern layouts consume more tiles, which is what the 15% allowance covers.

We Lay It Right

Level checks, slope to drains in wet areas, spacer-set joints and clean grouting, executed under our finishing works service with material procurement support.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about tile quantities, sizes and flooring cost

How many tiles do I need for 100 square feet?

It depends on tile size: about 104 tiles of 300x300 mm (1x1 ft), 52 tiles of 300x600 mm, 26 tiles of 600x600 mm (2x2 ft), 15 tiles of 800x800 mm, or 13 tiles of 600x1200 mm cover 100 sq ft before wastage. Add about 10% for cutting and breakage, so a 100 sq ft room in 600x600 tiles typically needs around 29 tiles.

How much wastage should I add when buying tiles?

10% is the standard allowance for a straight lay, covering cuts, breakage and future repairs. Use 15% for diagonal patterns, rooms with many corners or large-format tiles, and 5% only for large simple rectangular areas. Always buy the full quantity from the same batch, because shade varies between production lots.

What is the standard tile size for flooring in India?

600x600 mm (2x2 ft) vitrified tiles are the most common choice for living areas and bedrooms. 300x300 mm tiles remain standard for bathrooms, balconies and utility areas because of better slope and grip, while 600x1200 mm large-format and 200x1200 mm wood-plank tiles are the current premium trend.

How many tiles come in one box?

It varies by size and brand: typically 4 tiles per box for 600x600 mm, 2 for 600x1200 mm, 3 for 800x800 mm, 8 for 300x600 mm and 9-10 for 300x300 mm. Always confirm from the carton before ordering. This calculator prefills typical counts and lets you edit the tiles-per-box figure to match your brand.

Should I use cement-sand bedding or tile adhesive?

Traditional cement-sand bedding of 40-50 mm is economical and standard for new floors with regular tile sizes. Tile adhesive is a thin-bed method that is faster, bonds better and is strongly recommended for large-format tiles (800x800 mm and above), tile-on-tile work and wall tiling. The calculator estimates materials for whichever method you pick.

What does tile laying cost per square foot?

In Delhi NCR, tile laying labor typically runs 20-30 rupees per sq ft for standard sizes as of August 2026, with large-format and pattern work costing more. Material costs for bedding or adhesive and grout come on top. The calculator preloads indicative rates and every rate is editable so you can use your local quotes.

Does the calculator include skirting?

Yes. In room-dimension mode you can include a standard 4 inch skirting, and the calculator adds the skirting area along the room perimeter to the tile requirement. Skirting pieces are normally cut from the same floor tiles, so they are covered within the tile count and wastage allowance.
